We’ve heard about “biodiversity”… but what does it mean, exactly?
Biodiversity simply means variety among living plants and animals. What this means for you and your horse, is dietary variety and environmental sustainability. Providing variation in grasses, feed, and supplements can provide food from spring to fall. Keeping different kinds of grasses, wildflowers, and herbs in your pastures without mowing helps the ecosystem of your area by supporting bees, butterflies, and birds, and may be medicinal as well. Altering your pasture may not always be a viable solution, but supplementing diet with different foods, grasses and hay may help.
In this month’s Kim Baker Radio Show spotlight on Horses in The Morning, our own Tigger Montague explains in detail.
